Board Places Liggins on Administrative Leave

In Wednesday night’s special called meeting, the Fayette County Board of Education engaged in a thorough discussion of the needs and the best interests of Fayette County Public Schools. Based on the information available, the board voted on three motions, resulting in the following: 

• To place Superintendent Demetrus Liggins on paid administrative leave, consistent with standard personnel practices, pending further review of information concerning his employment. The leave will remain in effect while the matter is reviewed.
• To retain the firm of VanAntwerp Attorneys to conduct a review of information regarding the superintendent’s employment, pursuant to KRS 160.160.
• To appoint Assistant Superintendent Bill Bradford to serve as acting superintendent, effective immediately, in order to maintain continuity of leadership and district operations. 

The board's priority throughout this process is maintaining stability for students, staff, and families and ensuring the district remains focused on its core mission of supporting student success. School and district operations will continue without interruption.

Because this matter involves personnel issues and potential legal considerations, the board is limited in what it can discuss publicly at this time. The board will continue to follow all applicable policies and procedures as it reviews the matter. Additional information will be shared as appropriate.
